The highest ideal of cure is the rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of health; that is, the lifting and annihilation of the disease in its entire extent in the shortest, most reliable, and least disadvantageous way, according to clear realizable principles. -S. Hahnemann, MD. Aphorism 2, Organon of the Medical Art, 1810
Homeopathy is a complete system of medicine developed by Samuel Hahnemann in the late 1700’s. Homeopathy literally means “homeo” similar and “pathy” suffering. It is based on the principle known as the Law of Similars as well as the precise science of observation. The Law of Similars states that if a substance can cause the symptoms of an illness in a healthy person, then that same substance can cure those symptoms in a sick person.
Homeopathy like Chinese Medicine views the human being as an integrated whole…body, mind and spirit. This integrated system acts as a whole… responds to stimuli as a whole…and changes over time as a whole complete entity.
A further understanding about the human condition that is observed in Homeopathic medicine is the uniqueness of each person. Because of this unique quality, each patient expresses their illness in their own way, via their personality and habits, basically through their unique way of being.
Choosing the right and perfect remedy is based on the homeopath’s detection of the patient’s uniqueness. This comes about in an interview process that allows the homeopath to discover not only the peculiarities of the patient’s complaints but the idiosyncrasies and habits of the patient in every aspect of their life.
