Some Information On Your Bodies Lymph System & MLDT

The lymph system is a fluid one way circulation system that runs throughout the entire body from head to toe. As the lymph flows by the tissues it collects excess fluid, toxins, and proteins. It transports these substances to the lymph nodes where they are filtered and purified. Then they are either added back to the venous blood system or eliminated from the body via the urinary tract, digestive system, respiratory system, or the skin. This process rids the body of toxins and assists in producing antibodies to aid the immune system and in tissue regeneration.

A sluggish or damaged lymph system can result in edemas (excess fluid build-up), cellulite, a build-up of toxins in the body, low energy, and a decrease in the immune system. Damage to the lymph system can be the result of removal of lymph nodes, surgery, trauma, accidents, stress, lack of exercise, and age.
Manual Lymph Drainage Therapy (MLDT) is a very gentle technique used by trained practitioners which is used to stimulate the flow of lymph by gently stretching the lymphangions which are the tiny muscles that move the lymph fluid through the body. MLDT can also help to redirect the flow of lymph fluid which may have been disturbed and thus affected the normal flow of fluid.

The body circulates approximately 1 ½ - 4 liters of lymph fluid a day. With MLDT this can increase to 10 – 30 liters from a treatment.

You can also help the flow of lymph being circulated in your body using a few simple techniques every day.

  1. Breathe. Take a few good deep breaths several times a day.
  2. Exercise/Stretch. Just 5-10 minutes a day will help get your system moving.
  3. Laugh. Laughter is one of our best medicines and it is an excellent way to get the lymph system moving.
  4. Drink water. Water helps to flush out the toxins which have been processed by the lymph system.
